We are very pleased to report that sufficient contributions were received that enabled us to complete part one of our J.D. Wheeler Memorial Project. On May 18, 2010, a check in the amount of $2,000 was presented on behalf of our Peoria ACLU Chapter to the Peoria Public Library Board of Trustees during their regular monthly meeting. Please listen to the audio of the presentation that is generously provided by Elaine Hopkins:

It is expected that the Peoria downtown Library remodeling will be completed during the summer of 2011. In conjunction with the many activities of the re-opening, we will host with the Peoria Public Library, a public dedication ceremony of the new lower level display case in memory of J.D. Wheeler. We hope you will be able to join the Board of Directors at the dedication of the J.D. Wheeler Memorial display case.Thank you all for your generous contributions that have made this dedication gift possible.
Our work is not yet completed though.
We still request donations so that we can create a “Bill of Rights” display for use in libraries, schools and public meetings. The U. S. Constitution’s Bill of Rights was so important to J.D. and we believe that he would be very excited to know that we were devoting resources in his memory to educate the public about the Bill of Rights.
Donations will still be tax deductible with a check made payable to the Roger Baldwin Foundation. Mail your check to Joyce Harant and she will forward them to the Roger Baldwin Foundation in Chicago. Please contact Joyce for mailing information.
Thank you very much for making our J.D. Wheeler Memorial Project a reality.
Your Peoria ACLU Chapter Board of Directors.
